On February 11th and 12th, 2020, BRIDGE General Assembly took place in Brussels, Belgium organised by the European Commission in cooperation with DOWEL Management, Zabala Innovation Consulting and Ricerca Sistema Energetico. The aim of BRIDGE is to stimulate dialogues between regulators, authorities and innovation projects on smart grids and energy storage, as well as facilitate the results uptake of the technologies in the framework of the energy aspects of the European Green Deal.
The objectives of this meeting were to create a better understanding of the BRIDGE projects, share an insight about lessons learnt, help to establish closer collaboration among the projects and discuss future BRIDGE topics. Apart from being an occasion to present the reports produced by BRIDGE Working Groups and Task Forces, BRIDGE General Assembly 2020 gave space for new BRIDGE projects to be presented.
The European Island Facility NESOI Project coordinator - Andrea Martinez from Sinloc, took the opportunity to introduce the objectives of the newly established project and to present NESOI’s Technical Assistance platform.
The importance of islands involvement in the energy transition was underlined by Ditte Juul Jorgensen, the Director-General for DG ENER: “We need to make system more resilient for islands so they can rely on more local renewable energy sources."
The Deputy Head of Unit of Research and Innovation at DG Energy at the European Commission, Mark van Stiphout: “We have to make a difference on islands to make energy transition a reality.” In the light of the Commission’s strategy, The European Islands Facility – NESOI aims to fund 60 successful energy transition projects mobilizing more than €100m of investment and reducing significantly Green House Gas emissions by 2023.
