On Wednesday, February 28th, we had the pleasure of celebrating the Finale Grand Event at Le Bouche á Oreille, in Brussels. The event was an important milestone especially for our consortium because it represents the closing of a cycle that lasted more than 4 years full of emotions, challenges, hard work, but above all a great collaboration between great experts.

In a heartfelt message, the NESOI consortium extends its deepest gratitude to all participants for their invaluable contributions to the Grand Final Event of the NESOI project. A special thank goes to all the incredible speakers who decided to take part in this day with us and for sharing your knowledge and perspectives throughout the event. Your insights and experiences enriched our conversations and fueled our desire to keep pushing for a more sustainable future.

The event was praised for its resounding success, as it brought together enthusiasm, expertise, diverse perspectives, and the hard work of all the beneficiaries, demonstrating the collective efforts aimed at advancing sustainable energy solutions across the European Islands.

Spanning over 70 islands in 12 European countries, the project navigated through various legal frameworks, technology solutions, governance structures, and financial setups. Concretely speaking, the NESOI Facility has reported several significant milestones:

•   Deployment of €6.2 million in multidisciplinary technical assistance
•   Mobilization of €455 million in investments, surpassing initial targets fourfold
•   Achieving a leverage factor of x44 on EU funding
•   Savings of 424 ktCO2/yr in greenhouse gas emissions
•   996.2 GWh in annual primary energy savings
•   Introduction of over 100 energy transition use cases
•   Engagement of hundreds of policymakers, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, and citizens
•   Development of 234 e-learning contents, hosting 29 webinars, and participation in numerous events
•   Conducting three short in-situ study tours and launching a digital platform

Even though the NESOI project has concluded after 53 months of dedicated effort, its mission remains to replicate and develop strategies through the NESOI Beyond the Project.
