On 8 July 2021, the SMILE project partners and the Enterprise Europe Network organise an event raising awareness about the possibilities for a clean energy transition on different EU islands.
Events
On May 20th to 21st the Clean energy for EU islands forum will take place virtually. It will be the 6th forum of the Clean energy for EU islands initiative, the European Commission’s main event on clean energy transition on European islands. Through its exhibitors area, the two-day event will provide visibility to your organisation as well as bringing attention to your contribution to the energy transition of islands.
There are two ways to take part at the forum.
The energy transition requires a place where to pilot and demonstrate a fully renewable energy system which is sustainable both technically and economically. The energy company Flexens has identified the opportunity to develop and build a society scale energy system based on renewable energy sources on Åland together with the island government– an island with ideal wind and solar conditions and an ambitious climate and energy strategy with a population dedicated to sustainability. The project aims to demonstrate a society based on 100% renewable electricity.
The European Islands Facility NESOI will be hosting their first capacity building webinar on the 18th of June 2020 to share the knowledge gathered from the survey issued to EU Islands over the past months. The webinar will also be useful to gain insights on the eligibility criteria for the technical assistance that NESOI can offer.
As Europe begins its path towards recovery after the global pandemic, the need to ensure this recovery creates a safe and prosperous future for its economy and its citizens has been raised from many directions. Indeed, the threat posed to our economies and our societies from climate change and environmental destruction has become no less urgent – quite the opposite. We have received a taste of what a severe global crisis can look and feel like, now it is up to politicians, businesses and citizens to move our society into a direction that safeguards our livelihoods.
